• Netflix will co-produce a miniseries with two Thai production companies
  • The team and their coach have reportedly earned £100,000 each for their story
  • No word yet on whether Elon Musk will be on the cast

One of the few crumbs of comfort you might cling to if you were trapped two miles underground for a fortnight is that if you were to get out, you'd be guaranteed a Touching The Void-style documentary. You might even, in your dizzier and more exhausted moments, dream-cast a premium drama about your escape. Maybe they'd get Jake Gyllenhaal to play you, or Dev Patel. Someone with nice hair.

Obviously, the Thai football team who spent two weeks trapped in an underground cave last year before being rescued by the extraordinary efforts of a diving team (and not Elon Musk's robotic submersible) probably didn't fret about that during their horrific ordeal, but Thailand's Culture Ministry has announced that Netflix will be co-producing a mini-series based on the events, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"We can confirm that we are working on an original scripted mini-series with SKE Global and 13 Tham Luang Company Limited to bring the incredible story of the Thai cave rescue to audiences worldwide on Netflix," a Netflix spokesperson said. The Reporter also says that the 12 young footballers and their coach will each receive about £100,000 as part of the deal.

Who are we casting as Musk then? Splashing about in galoshes with his remote controlled submarine, desperately trying to get someone to let him have a go, being ignored. Matt Damon maybe? Viggo Mortensen doing Italian Elon Musk? Musk would definitely play himself if you asked him, though he'd also probably insist on writing his own lines.

If we're giving ourselves a bit of dramatic license here - and why wouldn't you - you could turn Musk and his robot into a comic relief double act, with the relentlessly chipper robot irritating the sidelined and increasingly cantankerous Musk. The robot, which would be voiced by Tim Allen, would refer to Musk as "father". You're welcome!
