Set aside 6 hours this weekend, because you are going to want to binge watch Netflix’s new documentary Wild Wild Country.

Over the six-part series you see the rise of Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and his ill-fated eighties commune in Central Oregon – and their path towards one of the most infamous cult-inspired crimes in US history.

Rajneesh was a man with ambition, that much is true. Not only did he want his own city, but he wanted his own religious movement to go with it.

Rajneesh started his journey in the 1980s by purchasing a sprawling piece of land in Wasco County with the view of turning the “Big Muddy Ranch” into the city of Rajneeshpuram.

This new city would become the home for his new religious movement, which was all about shaping The New Man, and a lot of free love while they were at it.

This was all much to the horror of the people of Antelope, who had not pictured an influx of nude newcomers to the area - with writhing orgies probably being the tipping point when it comes to neighbours from hell.

So the small community of Antelope began to fight back, and when we say small, to this day only around 40 people live in the area.

It wasn't long before national officials started to ask questions, including just exactly is the difference between religion and cult.

Ultimately the story is the battle between the Rajneeshees and Antelope with a view into American paranoia and the threat of the unfamiliar. That, and a fair bit of nudity.
