The first images for Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese's Netflix collabo film The Irishman are here, and it looks a lot like the much-trailed CGI de-ageing process has worked untold miracles on Goodfellas co-stars De Niro and Joe Pesci.

Let's have a quick look at the two pictures Netflix has released from the biopic of hitman Frank Sheeran (no relation to potential Bond 25 tunesmith Ed).

Pretty good actually, isn't it? De Niro's been transported back to somewhere around his Casino days rather than being given the full Fresh Prince treatment, which helps with the believability. And Joe Pesci! Look at him! Look at Joe Pesci's youthful little head! It's as if the stress of being beaten up by Kevin McCallister twice never happened. Let's take a closer look.

Not bloody bad at all. Now if Scorsese could just retrospectively CGI someone else's face over De Niro's throughout Dirty Grandpa, we'd be all set.

The Irishman's coming to Netflix, as mentioned, but it's also been picked to open the New York Film Festival on 27 September. The official blurb from the fest describes it as "a film about friendship and loyalty between men who commit unspeakable acts and turn on a dime against each other, and the possibility of redemption in a world where it seems as distant as the moon," and to be fair, they do know what they're on about.
