When the first film trailer was created in 1913, no one could have foreseen the Russian doll situation we now find ourselves in. Teaser trailers are one thing, but trailers for trailers? Truly beyond the pale.

But here we are, eyes pressed against our screens, desperately trying – and failing – to extract any insight from the chaotic, fourteen-second trailer for the trailer for No Time To Die, before the real trailer is released on Wednesday 4 December. They’ve won, and this content snowball will eventually crush us all.

Unfortunately, even the biggest Bond crank will struggle to pull many theories from these snippets. It all looks very exciting, with all the requisite guns and stunts and sleeve adjustments, and Bond's surprised everyone with an uncharacteristic collar pop (what could it possibly mean?).

What we do know for sure is that Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright and Rory Kinnear will return to the series, alongside newcomers Lashana Lynch and Rami Malek.

Speaking of Rami Malek, some are suggesting that he turns up as the figure behind the glass right at the end. It certainly doesn't look like him, but it's a suitably villainous appearance, so who knows.

Watch the trailer above, and make sure you head back to Esquire to check out the real trailer when it drops on Wednesday.

No Time to Die has a UK release date of 3 April, 2020, and has a US release date of 8 April 2020.
