Peaky Blinders' fourth season came to a spectacular conclusion earlier this week, but Tommy Shelby's story isn't stopping there.
Not only will we get a fifth outing of the series in 2019, but we also have news about that Peaky Blinders musical in the meantime. Yes, that is a thing that is actually happening, and the show's executive producer Caryn Mandabach has confirmed it's "actively" in the works.
"It's going great, bumping along," Mandabach told Deadline of the musical's progress. "It's not going to happen tomorrow, but we're actively meeting about it and having a blast. You can only imagine those meetings are real fun."
Speaking to Digital Spy earlier this year, series creator Steven Knight confirmed he'd written a story that he thinks could work for a musical and Mandabach added that they're expecting to see that story early in the New Year.
"Steve said he'd turn in the treatment of what would happen in February, so we have that to look forward to," she added.
According to Knight, a Peaky Blinders musical isn't actually as far-fetched as it sounds, adding that "music has always been important in Peaky".
"It's just in the early stages, but it would be taking the industry and the clothes and the look and the swagger, and putting it on stage," he explained.
And as for the Peaky Blinders movie, that's a little less set in stone apparently.
"I have no info further about the movie, I can only say we have continued support from extraordinary artistic forces," Mandabach added.
BBC Two confirmed that Peaky Blinders would return for another six-episode run in 2019 after this week's season four finale, following on from season five being picked up back in 2016 as part of a double-commission by the BBC.
