Pierce Brosnan has backed Tom Hardy to be the next James Bond ahead of other frontrunners including James Norton, Tom Hiddleston and Jack Huston.

"I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond," he told The Mail on Sunday's Event magazine. "I'd be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it - that's what makes Bond."

Hardy is currently the bookies' favourite along with McMafia's James Norton. They're priced at 3/1 by Coral, while Aidan Turner from Poldark is at 4/1 and Idris Elba is at 8/1.

Brosnan also paid tribute to Daniel Craig, who took up the role after Brosnan kitesurfed unconvincingly out of the franchise after Die Another Day in 2002 and will leave after making Bond 25 with Danny Boyle.

"Daniel Craig has been an incredible Bond," Brosnan said. "He’s very physical, he looks lethal. You genuinely believe this is someone who could kill a man."
