The first trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is finally here, and it looks, in short, like an extremely Quentin Tarantino kind of film. Top notch R&B soundtrack? Yep. Quotable? Extremely. Stylish? Intensely. Watch it here.
Just going on the two minutes we've got here - well, a minute and 43 seconds minus the trailer for the trailer that is now the norm at the top of YouTube film trailers - there's little in the way of plot pointers but the dynamic between Pitt and DiCaprio's characters will be extremely interesting. We mostly see them cruising down Sunset Boulevarde, but then there's some mock-punching going on too. It looks tense.
"Cliff here is meant to help carry the load," as DiCaprio's Dalton says. Is that right, Cliff? "What, ‘carrying his load’? Yeah, that’s about right."
While we're quoting lines, there are some pearlers in the trailer. "My hands are registered as lethal weapons,” Bruce Lee tells Pitt's Cliff. (Note: not actual Bruce Lee, obviously - as everyone knows, the real Bruce Lee faked his death in 1973 so he could fight the triads.) "We get into a fight, I accidentally kill you, I go to jail."
"Anybody accidentally kills somebody in a fight they go to jail, it's called manslaughter," Pitt snaps back.
More than anything, it's clearly a heartfelt tribute to Hollywood by Tarantino. "I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old," Tarantino said, according to Variety. "I'm very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore."
