By Raheem Sterling has a new outrage to put alongside the shocking occasions on which he used his money to buy fairly expensive things, used his money to buy fairly inexpensive things, ate a steak bake, didn't clean his car, and bought batteries from Poundland.
He's got a tattoo of a gun on his leg, which The Sun has labelled "SICK" on today's front-page. The Sun's piece also claims the tattoo has "triggered the fury of anti-gun campaigners" and cites Lucy Cope of Mothers Against Guns' demands that he have the tattoo "lasered off" or be dropped from the England squad.
What the article doesn't mention, however, is that the tattoo is actually a tribute to Sterling's dad, who was killed in gun violence in Kingston, Jamaica, when the England international was a child.
"When I was 2 my father died from being gunned down to death I made a promise to myself I would never touch a gun in my lifetime," Sterling explained on Instagram.
"I shoot with my right foot so it has a deeper meaning n [sic] [it is] still unfinished."
Naturally, though, the sight of an M16 rifle being permanently inked on the calf of a man who'll be representing England at the World Cup very shortly has put the tabloids in all sorts of lather.
Imagine! A leg - that leg, with a gun drawn on it - being sheathed in the sacred white nylon-polyester mix sock of this once-proud nation. The sock which graced the legs of Bobby Moore, Winston Churchill, William Shakespeare, even St George himself, is being brought into disrepute by contact with this tattoo. For shame.
Will you mime shooting the crowd with your gun-leg after scoring a goal Raheem? Will you personally apologise to the country for your shameful display, Raheem? Will you stop being a rich black man who came from a working class background, Raheem?
