Red Dead Redemption 2 is filled with missions, but a lot of gamers only had one from the start: to break it.

Within a week of release glitch-hunters had already managed to tear through the borders of the map and travel to Mexico, a sparse expanse left over in the game’s code that doesn’t feature in the story at all.

Now they’ve happened upon another secret passage, this time to Guarma. If you’ve finished the game, you’ll know that the exotic island played a big part in Chapter 5, but became inaccessible as soon as you had finished shooting up the place.

Kotaku has pointed us to the 'Basement Gamer Bros' YouTube channel's pretty simple guide, and all that’s required is a rickety old canoe and a lot of patience.

First you have to activate a glitch laid out in the video to exit the main map, which largely involves pressing the X button a billion times, rowing through mesh and seeking medical attention for your life-threatening thumb cramp.

Once you activate it, you keep rowing south to Guarma, underneath a trippy horizon of floating trees. It will eventually tell you you’ve reached the area, but there’s clearly more work to do. Keep rowing and you’ll eventually find the island, just as you remember it.

The video also reveals how you can take a diversion and reach the secret side of the island you never explored first time around.
