Burberry, a label steeped in British tradition, welcomed in a new era on Monday evening as Riccardo Tisci brought haute streetwear to the runway for his debut collection.

The show opened in an uncharacteristically conservative fashion for Tisci, with not a burning car or scantily clad celeb in sight. Instead, models strutted their stuff in razor-sharp tailoring and chain-link Sam Browne belts, while draped in classic Burberry outerwear with a twist.

Anyonegetting their hopes up for a dramatic shake-up of Burberry’s core values may at this point have been in doubt, but that’s where Tisci brought out the second part of his collection.

Streetwear took over as loose silhouettes, bold prints and sport-inspired styling dominated the runway.

It wasn’t a complete departure from Christopher Bailey-era Burberry, though. Beige still abounded and the iconic trench coat that the English designer brought back into the spotlight during his reign was present, albeit with a distinct Tisci touch.

In true streetwear style, there was even a ‘drop’ following the show, whereby the label made certain streetwear-leaning items from the collection available to buy through Instagram for a 24-hour period.

A hugely exciting show - and this is only the beginning. Having watched Tisci transform Givenchy over 12 years, we can't wait to see what's around the corner for Britain’s biggest luxury label.
