Star Trek's fourth instalment was confirmed earlier this year, much to the surprise and delight of fans, as well as cast members who were unaware of their involvement until the announcement.
Since then, stars of the franchise have been addressing their plans to return to the universe, with Thor's Chris Hemsworth being the latest to affirm his keenness to make another appearance on starship USS Enterprise, reprising the role of George Kirk.
"There was talk about me doing the film with Chris Pine at one point, the script was put together and then it fell apart. But if J.J. Abrams called me tomorrow and said: 'Chris Pine and I want to do it', I'd probably say: 'Yeah, let's go for it'," he revealed to Vanity Fair.
Hemsworth appeared in the first of the rebooted Star Trek films in 2009 and also reflected on how it helped him to then achieve the role of Thor for Marvel.
"I'd shot Star Trek and then I had about about eight or nine months where I couldn't get a job. Then the film came out and it gave me some momentum. I had auditioned for Thor a few times but didn't get a callback. I then had the opportunity to have another callback. Star Trek had come out, Kenneth Branagh had seen it. I do think it helped in many, many ways. I think J.J. Abrams and Kenneth had a conversation.
"The initial audition I sent was with my mum and I, and my mum was reading as Anthony Hopkins, so I don't know, maybe it was her read that somehow swayed the vote there."
Meanwhile, Hemsworth has recently clarified where the latest Thor movie, Love and Thunder, fits within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, confirming that it will pick up from the events of Avengers: Endgame.
"Endgame left with Thor giving the Kingship to Valkyrie on Earth, and Thor was at a pretty emotionally complex place at the time… he was a little out of shape, which represented his emotional complexity. He went off on a journey of self-discovery with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and that's kind of where we pick up."
