Steve Carell says he's up for putting on the rimless aviator glasses and permanently glazed-but-horrified expression of Anchorman weatherman Brick Tamland for a third instalment in the series, if nobody else has anything better to do.

"If they make another one, I’ll do another one," Carell told Variety while promoting new film Welcome To Marwen. "Those are really fun. That’s just hanging out with friends and being silly."

Brick Tamland could return sooner than that, though: Will Ferrell has announced that he'll be making a comeback as Ron Burgundy in the upcoming Ron Burgundy Podcast series. Carell would be massively up for that too: "Sure, if he wants me to come in and say some non-sequiturs as Brick, of course. I would in a second."

David Koechner, who plays sports reporter Champ Kind, said in May this year that a third Anchorman is "always in the ether" but depends on director Adam McKay's schedule as much as anyone wanting to do it. McKay himself has suggested that a third film could catch up with Burgundy and the team during the first or second Gulf War.

"I don’t want to say too much, but I’ll just tell you that embedded journalist, Ron Burgundy, Veronica Corningstone, the news team," McKay told Cinemablend in March. "That definitely gave us a big idea." McKay's next film, Vice, is all about the Bush-Cheney White House years too, though the chances of a universe crossover are relatively slim.
