During Nintendo's Stellar "Nindies" showcase today came the announcement of the long rumoured Stranger Things game, and it’s as delightfully retro as the Netflix series. We saw a nice chunk of gameplay, the town of Hawkins, and some of the stellar cast all in old school 16-bit Super Nintendo glory.

The game is described as a "retro-style adventure game" and appears to be equal parts arcade brawler and dungeon puzzler. The game thankfully features two-player co-op and has 12 playable characters. While only a few of the characters make an appearance in the trailer, it appears each of them will have unique abilities and strategies. It’s not clear on whether the characters are all always available or assigned to you from one mission to the next. However, it does look like Winona Ryder's character, Joyce, may be playable, so check that off your bucket list.

Stranger Things 3: The Game plays through the events of Stranger Things 3 and has promised mysteries to solve. The game's throwback style and co-op gameplay looks promising and takes us back to the days of Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Both Stranger Things 3 and Stranger Things 3: The Game drop on 4 July this year.
