Last month we learned that Google is working on a video game streaming service, and now we have our first look at what the Cali tech giant’s controller could look like.

A new patent provides a sketch of the current blue-print for the gamepad, which most closely resembles an Xbox One controller (or an evolved SNES one, maybe. We could argue about this all day, so let's move on).

The patent also reveals plans for a notification system which tells players when a game is available, as well as about their leaderboard status and any invites they get from other players.

Yankodesign has created a number of renders of what the controller could look like based on the sketches, though Google are only in the planning stages and the gamepad is likely to change.

The streaming service itself, likened to a “Netflix for games” by The Verge, is reportedly being built on the tech Google developed for Project Stream last year, similar to the company’s Chromecast platform.

It’s not yet known whether the service will only play Android games or if it will be able to take on bigger titles. Last year Google hired industry veteran Phil Harrison, who worked for PlayStation and Xbox, to help with the technology.

Other companies have dabbled with stream-based gaming, and it’s widely seen as the future of the industry. Sony’s PlayStation Now service allows gamers to play titles from previous console generations for a monthly fee.
