Wireless phone charging is the future, but early efforts have been pretty underwhelming. Most charging stations need to be plugged into the wall, and ultimately amount to nothing more than comically oversized lightning cables.

But the tech is advancing at pace, and rumours suggest that Apple’s follow-up to the iPhone XR could boast a revolutionary battery feature.

According to reports from Apple Insider, the future iPhone could have the same “bilateral” wireless charging technology as the AirPower pad. That means you can charge other tech by placing it on top of your iPhone.

That is, if it’s charged. If it’s out of juice you’ll have to place it on top of your other charging pad, which is plugged into the wall. It's kind of like a game of Jenga, if it had the potential to bankrupt you.

The battery life will also be vastly improved, and rumours suggest it will also have a triple-lens camera as well as frosted glass casing.

How likely is it? Who knows. But as Samsung, Google and Huawei continue to push forward with award-winning models, we imagine Apple will be pulling out all the stops.
