Carrying on the Star Wars universe's law that the coolness of a character on the side of good is inversely proportionate to the clonking lameness of their name, Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron is one of the suavest and most competent fighter pilots in the known galaxy. But now there's a fan theory that says he's not just some bloke with a spaceship, and that the next Star Wars film will show he knows the ways of the Force too.

It goes like this. There are quite a lot of foresty, swampy planets and moons in the Star Wars galaxy, but Yavin 4 is a particularly important one. As you know, it's the fourth moon of the planet Yavin, and it's from there that the big climactic battle is launched in A New Hope, as well as the scene of that medal ceremony after the Death Star's been blown up.

In the comic miniseries Shattered Empire: The Road To The Force Awakens - which came out just before The Last Jedi, and might be the first comic miniseries to take Road To World Cup '98 as an influence - it's not just the Skywalker clan and the assorted Jedi and Sith masters who can wield the Force. Set just before Return of the Jedi, it focuses on Poe Dameron's parents. The Dameron family's urge to give their kids hilarious names clearly goes back a few generations, because they're called Kes Dameron and Shara Bey.

Anyway, Poe's mum was a fighter pilot and went on a mission with Luke Skywalker to grab some cuttings trees growing in the Jedi temple on Coruscant. Shara ended up being given a tree by Luke as a thank you and Poe grew up with it on Yavin 4. So what, you might think. Pot plants are a legit if sadly rare giftable item, and children play beside plants all the time. What gives?

That plant had the power of the Force within it, so its not beyond reason that the young Poe might have built some kind of connection to the Force from it. Plus, he's a really good pilot. Who else is a really good pilot? Luke, Anakin and Rey - all extremely Force-adept. So, it's not concrete as yet, but if anyone's going to suddenly be able to ping stuff about with some wibbly-woo pseudo-shamanism in the next film, bet on Poe.
