Nobody thought Harry Kane would turn out the way he has. Not his former youth coaches at Arsenal. Not even the staff at Spurs, who were set to offload him after a number of underwhelming loans spells.

Tim Sherwood claims that he was the man who convinced the Tottenham top brass not to sell, which was a rare win for the former boss. Kane is now the world’s most in-demand striker, and is set to attract record-breaking bids from Real Madrid and Man City in the summer.

He scored against his former club yet again on Saturday, and Arsenal legend and former academy director Liam Brady still curses the moment he let the British striker leave as a kid.

"He was chubby and not very athletic, but we got it wrong," Brady told Corriere della Sera.

Kane has gone on to score 131 goals in 198 games for their North London rivals. That being said, he doesn’t blame himself too harshly.

"Even Tottenham loaned him out to the lower leagues three or four times though.

"But with his determination, he is building a great career. And he deserves it."

Arsene Wenger was slightly less philosophical when discussing the topic in 2015, saying:

"I found it quite funny, you know, but you are always a bit angry as well because I asked why did he go?" Wenger said.

"But at nine years of age, boys can move here and there. Some people move from Tottenham to Arsenal. At youth level, because their parents find a different job, they often move somewhere else."
