Here's your first look at Tom Hardy as Al Capone.

The British actor will play the iconic mob boss in forthcoming film Fonzo, which will be directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle, Fantastic Four), and will follow Capone's final years.

Capone died in 1947 at the age of 48 and the film will uniquely tell the tale of Capone's ultimate demise, having been released from prison after suffering from dementia (which was caused by syphilis) as he is haunted by memories of his violent past.

Despite production on the movie just beginning, we already have our first glimpse at Hardy as Al Capone.

The pictures come courtesy of both Hardy and Trank's social media feeds, the latter of which shows director Trank really embodying the '40s gangster vibe and randomly features Stephen Graham (who hasn't been announced for a role in the film).

Graham, of course, portrayed Capone in Boardwalk Empire, so he could well be on set to offer Hardy advice on portraying the notorious Prohibition-era gangster.

Fonzo will co-star Matt Dillon, Twin Peaks actor Kyle MacLachlan, Linda Cardellini (Daddy's Home, Scooby-Doo) and Jack Lowdon, all of whom have yet to be pictured in costume.

Hardy's casting in the biopic follows a string of high-profile roles in Oscar-nominated films including The Revenant and Dunkirk.

It also follows his work on Sony's Venom film, which stars Hardy in the titular role alongside Jenny Slate, Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed and will be released in October.
