Tom Hardy's 'Taboo' Could Be Back For Another Two Series

Tom Hardy's Taboo could be back for another two series, according to industry high-ups who want a bit more of Hardy and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight's dark, twisting revenge fable.

"I can't even tell you how many conversations we’ve had but we literally talked to [Knight] about it yesterday," FX chairman John Landgraf told Deadline. "He has an idea for a potential second and a potential third season of Taboo."

"It really just comes down to Tom - it comes down to what Tom wants to do, when he wants to do it, when he is available," Landgraf went on. "I could see both those seasons getting made and relatively soon, and I could see neither of those seasons getting made."

Knight, as you'll know from his outlines of exactly where Tommy Shelby's heading in the next two seasons of Peaky Blinders, tends to have a good idea of where he wants his shows and characters to end up the long term. It sounds like while Hardy is still very into Taboo, it could take a shuffling of the personnel at the forefront of the drama to make sure it happens.

"We’ve talked about - and are still talking about - the possibility of doing a season which Tom would be a part of but not at the very centre of it," Landgraf said. "He seems very emotionally, very committed to this character, though, and very committed to this show. And Steven is still passionate and wants to write it, but it comes down to Tom’s availability."

Taboo was a bit of a sleeper hit for the BBC, peaking at 3.9 million live viewers but a strong showing on iPlayer to make up for it. A second series was reportedly in the works way back in 2017, but presumably Hardy's involvement in Venom and Fonzo, and Knight's work on Peaky Blinders, have knocked it off schedule somewhat. Knight said early this year that writing was "almost" finished, but don't hold your breath for a second series before the middle of 2020.
