preview for Tom Odell Esquire Townhouse

Tom Odell was first star-struck when meeting Lily Allen, who after listening to the voice she went on to compare to David Bowie, signed him to her label. The time he was most star-struck however was when he found himself next to Raphael Nadal at an airport urinal. A moment he described as "one of the greatest wees of my life" to the audience at the Esquire Townhouse last night.

In the six years Odell was signed he has released two critically acclaimed albums and won a string of awards including the BRITs Critic's Choice Award and the prestigious Ivor Novello Songwriter Of The Year award.

Next week he releases Jubilee Road an album inspired by the East London street he spent several years living on and the comings and goings of his neighbours.

On Thursday Tom gave guests at the Esquire Townhouse with Breitling a preview of the album by performing four tracks live and discussed the new album with BBC 6Music presenter and interviewer Matt Everitt.

During an audience Q&A he gave some insight into the stories behind his songs admitting his breakout track 'Another Love' was in fact about him "being a bit of a bastard" though did reveal that his track 'Grow Old With Me' is not, as you might think, written about a relationship but about unrequited love.

"I give off the impression I'm with that person but I wasn't," he said, adding, "I have so many people tell me they got married to that track."
