The iron rule of Tommy Shelby over the Peaky Blinders-verse might be about to come to an end in the show's upcoming fifth season.

According to Kate Phillips, who plays Linda, her character has had it up to here with Tommy's "authoritarian influence over the family" and resolves to become "a thorn in Tommy's side" over the fifth season.

Linda's husband Arthur Shelby is the man with the power in Birmingham, having become the chairman of the Shelby Company Limited while his brother Tommy swans off to London to stick a rocket under Parliament. (Metaphorically.) Linda sees a chance that Arthur is unwilling to exploit.

"This does not sit well with Linda," Phillips told Digital Spy. "She sees the advantage that he's not taking and that's where you see this power-hungry attitude come out of her. She sees that she can manipulate Arthur.

"It's just not working for her and she keeps being shut down by Tommy, so something has to change. That's when she goes back into her... I think she shocks herself into seeing she's gone too far, and she kind of retreats back to her Quaker ways to get support and guidance."

That's not to say that she's going to go off the deep end and shoot up any gaffs in season five though, Phillips added.

"There's a lot of love there, that they still share and I think she's trying to savour that," she said. "I think that's the Quaker in her. That's what creates a really amazing conflict for her - this overwhelming desire to be good and but also, fury erupts out of her."
