It’s hard to get excited by the prospect of a Netflix sci-fi anymore. Bright, Altered Carbon and The Cloverfield Paradox were all panned by critics, despite the big budgets and even bigger names attached to them.

Still, the prospect of Gary Oldman voicing an evil AI system has given us a little hope. He’ll be joined by Game of Thrones' Ed Skrein and It Follows star Maika Monroe in the upcoming Netflix thriller Tau, which tells the story of a “street-smart grafter” trying to escape a futuristic smart house which is holding her captive.

Directed by Federico D’Allessandro in his first feature film, it’s impossible to ignore Tau’s huge similarity to Stanley Kubrick’s Oscar-winning classic 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The movie is set for release on Netflix UK on 29 June. Check out the trailer here.
