A Tarantino film is a cinematic event, and with his forthcoming release set to be his penultimate directorial outing, there's a lot of excitement building for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
We have the trailer, which is packed with sixties style, beautiful cars and Bruce Lee, as well as a selection of in-world posters to celebrate its appearance at Cannes.
What is it about?
Though the plot centres around the murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers, Tarantino has been at pains to explain the subject of the film is not Charles Manson but "1969" in general, specifically Los Angeles in the summer of that year.
"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood takes place in 1969, at the height of the counterculture, hippy revolution and the height of new Hollywood," the director told CinemaCon last April. "Street by street, block by block, we'll transform Los Angeles into the Hollywood of 1969."
Who is in it?
The internet melted for a moment back in June when Leonardo DiCaprio shared an image of himself alongside Brad Pitt, doubling down on the seventies style trend in a sneak peek of the upcoming film.
The duo are playing two old Hollywood western actors with DiCaprio as "Rick Dalton, former star of a western TV series, and Pitt will be his longtime stunt double, Cliff Booth."
Australian actor Damon Herriman will play murderous cult leader Charles Manson who, coincidentally, he will also appear as in the forthcoming season of Mindhunter. Not a bad person to be typecast as given the current vogue for serial killers.
The impressive cast also boasts Steve McQueen, Dakota Fanning, Luke Perry, Emile Hirsch, Timothy Olyphant, Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, and Tim Roth.
Girls star Lena Dunham and the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, Maya joined the project later with Variety reporting that, "Dunham will be playing a character named Gypsy. Hawke has been cast as the fictional character Flower Child."
What will it look like?
Photographs that emerged from Tarantino shooting in Los Angeles and the trailer show that his promise was not lofty director talk but exactly what he has done, with Hollywood Boulevard transformed into a sixties backdrop.
In the images we see Brad and Leo in their seventies get-up both sat in a vintage car and being given instructions by Tarantino.
The official Instagram account has also shared further set images from the film, with one image of Pitt reclined on a golf buggy - the type used to shuttle stars around the backlots of sets in Hollywood - while wearing a pair of retro-looking aviators and a t-shirt in a similar shade of yellow to his ride.
There's also a photo of DiCaprio vaulting a fence with a gun in hand and one of Robbie being filmed walking across a retro-fitted Hollywood street.
When is it out?
The film was originally due to be released on 9 August to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the murders of actress Sharon Tate, but after conversations with Tate's sister Tarantino decided to move the date to 26 July, 2019 in the US and 15 August 2019 in the UK.
