And on the third day, HBO created the sequel to its critically acclaimed series, The Young Pope. John Malkovich will join star Jude Law in the upcoming continuation of Paolo Sorrentino’s limited series called The New Pope.

As Variety points out, "it was previously said that the series, an original production of HBO and Italy’s Sky, will not be a second season of The Young Pope. Rather, HBO and Sky described it as Sorrentino’s second limited series set in the world of the modern papacy."

At this point, it's unclear what the new show will be about or exactly what Malkovich and Law's characters will be, given the fate of Pius XIII at the end of The Young Pope.

The original series followed Law's Lenny Belardo, as he became the first American pope—a cunning, deeply conservative, and manipulative man who rattles the Vatican. According to rumors, Malkovich will play the titular new pope, whose age has not yet been revealed.

It's important to note that Malkovich is 64 years old and Law is 45 years old.
