Air Max Day 2024 is here; hence, so is the Air Max Dn.

In case you're yet to read/hear about this brand-new Swoosh-adorned silhouette (which means you failed to check out our list of the most anticipated sneaker launches of 2024. Shame on you!), Nike is pitching it as “the next era of Air”, which – as we type this – we realise sounds rather dystopian.

But, of course, it refers to the evolution of its most famous technology that's cardinal to almost all of its preeminent silhouettes, including the Air Jordan 1 (not to mention, the 2,3,4,5,6 and so on), the Air Force 1 and the entirety of the Air Max line.

Anyway, we digress.

Let's take the time to see what the Air Max Dn is all about.

Some sneakerheads are comparing the brand-new model to the Air Max Plus (AKA the Air Max Tn); others say it's giving the Air Max 720. Both are fair observations.

And just as the former acquainted the world with Tuned Air (Tn), and the latter was used to unveil the tallest Air unit to date, the Air Max Dn introduces the world to Dynamic Air (Dn) innovation.

Which is? Technically speaking, a dual-chamber air unit comprised of four tubes, two of which are tuned with high pressure (15 psi) and positioned under the heel, whilst the other two are tuned with low pressure (5 psi) and positioned under the midfoot.

Which means? According to Nike, “unreal comfort, a smooth stride and max bounce”. Essentially, it responds to the pressure you put on it to deliver a next-level on-foot experience.

“The independent setup of the chambers means that the air unit can respond to the load of your body with each step,” says Reggie Hunter, Product Director for Nike Lifestyle Footwear. “The feeling of heel-to-toe movement is seamless because the air unit is interacting in real-time with your foot and moves with you.”

The new silhouette also brags a TPU heel counter that supports the Achilles, a TPU midfoot clip that adds structure and support, injected phylon foam around the air unit to increase comfort and an uber-durable rubber outsole.

Plus, a space-age upper inspired by the fluidity of the air in the lower portion of the shoe.

Nike's confidence in the latest Air Max model – the key focus of its Air Max Day 2024 celebrations – is manifested in its expansive launch: nine colourways have just released on Nike platforms and in Nike retailers.

“You usually think about the visible Air unit carrying the emotion, but we see colour as a holistic tool to bring more emotion to a silhouette,” says Juliana Sagat, Lead Footwear Designer for Nike Lifestyle.

“The Dn was designed so that colour works precisely and in unison with the Dynamic Air platform, the upper, and the general profile of the shoe. When you can do that, your form of self-expression is limitless.”

Distinct emphasis is being placed on the 'all day' and 'all night' Air Max Dns, colourways that work with a palette of purple, pink, black and red which are set to be more limited than the rest.

But since all nine can be considered OG colourways, each is just as coveted as the next.
