Big trainers with a suit: we know what you're thinking. Style-deficient commuter, mid-forties, terrible trouser break and a beading brow on a packed Waterloo & City line. Strangely-deployed hiking backpack optional. Look to A$AP Rocky however, and there's finally some proof that it can work.
At Rihanna's fourth Annual Diamond Ball (a big charity bash from the queen of 'oh na na, ey ey' interludes), A$AP paired a classic black tux, designed by Berluti's Kris Van Assche, with the footwear du jour: chunky white trainers from an aerobics video circa 1993. Which sounds terrible. Though make like the Fashion Killa, and it's an easy way to dress down formality.
The rules are simple: keep your palette simple, and avoid anything too 'ugly'. You know the sort: oversized, oddly-shaped hooves that are the current craze for anyone that's been near a Supreme queue. Alternatively, an even simpler trainer - white minimalist kicks or, say, Vans loafers - will pair just as well.
Of course, there's nothing wrong with pairing a classic suit with classic footwear. But if you do want to pivot from the norm - and follow hip-hop's royalty in the process - there are worse men to emulate than A$AP Rocky. Get yours below.
