There you sit, on the balcony of your second home on the Algarve, grasping around for your sunglasses. It's a common problem in your silver years: losing stuff (and having an issue with paying property tax). Where did you put them? Why does this keep happening? Why does your youngest granddaughter deem it appropriate to post bikini photos on Instagram? You don't want to see that. You also don't want to keep misplacing things. You wish you'd put your sunglasses on a chain like the rest of your retired pals.
Except you're not actually retired. You're not even close. Because, just yesterday, it took a certain Chris Pratt to prove that shades on a rope are viable for the under-70s, too. They're cool. A little bit retro. And, most importantly, they're useful – a necklace of sweet, sweet relief when you want to do the Guardian crossword and all the sun loungers with parasols are taken (damn you, Betty).
En route to Jimmy Kimmel Live in LA, Pratt made a simple decision that could read as out-of-step with his current wardrobe rotation. As a Very Famous Man who sits in the middle-bracket of menswear (current, contemporary clothes, but not a slave to trends), sunglasses on a rope are generally read as either a) an outdated move best left to pensioners or b) a nauseatingly current move for androgynous Berliners who can tell you the exact BPM of every techno banger played in Tresor at 5am.

But as Pratt proves, they're neither of those things. In this instance, they're useful, and sensible, and we're totally onboard as we prepare our wardrobes for summer 2020. Because even though our generation will probably work until the grave, there's no harm in playing dress-up as a pensioner with feet all over the property ladder. Just put your sunglasses on a rope, instead.
