The secret here is to enlist multiple different shades in staple shapes. So a sand coloured jacket, umber trousers and cream shoes. This adds depth to your look, scoring tonal points without making you look like a North Korean sentry guard.

It works with other colours, too. But know that go-to colours - your navies, greys, browns and so on - are much easier to wear than anything too left-field. If you don't feel comfortable, don't wear it.
