As if it needed any more rubber-stamping, Jacob Elordi has used his appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show to reinforce the dominance of preppy style in menswear right now. Of course, he was there to discuss the latest series of Euphoria – and you can find our various takes on that, here – but as style guys, it was impossible not to notice Elordi’s impeccable fit. Wearing head-to-to Celine (apart from the watch – more on that later) he looked every bit the all-American high school student, which may have had something to do with the Euphoria promo…

First, the Letterman jacket, or Celine’s luxury take on the style. Cut from wool, with leather detailing on the shoulders, the style was originally given to the sporting students of a school to mark them out as athletes (and social demi-gods, no doubt), hence the lettering on the chest and back of the jacket. Despite its collegiate grounding, the varsity jacket has long since busted out of school and right now is cooler than ever, with the likes of Burberry, Valentino and Alexander McQueen all offering their own take for Autumn/Winter ’21.

Then we come to the penny loafers and white socks, like Elordi has stepped right off the pages of Take Ivy, the bible of preppy menswear. Again, the loafers are Celine, but rather than the chunkier styles we’re seeing more and more of, these are super low-profile. Harder to pull off because the proportions can be tricky, but nonetheless eternally stylish.

And finally, the watch. A Monaco, by Tag Heuer. Elordi has crowned his sartorial ode to the mid-Century with one of the most iconic watches of the past 60 years, and we applaud him for it. Nothing complicated, just classic style, worn well.
