The year 2019 has been a real joy for Jake Gyllenhaal. He's experimented (with clothes, we mean). He's been the best-dressed guy at the party. He is, in short, having fun. And now, he's even gotten a big two-handed twist on one of the most rigid of outfits: the formal suit.
At the Clash de Cartier launch in Paris, the 38-year-old rebooted black tie with one choice scarf. Slotted firmly under the neckline, this is the sort of subtle detail that a) elevates a look and b) will appease bouncers that've received an intense dress code briefing.
It's easy to repurpose, too, so long as you stick to a very specific sort of scarf. It should be silk, and ideally, in black or white. That means your go-to stripes for Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday afternoons are probably off-limits.
Like Gyllenhaal, complete with the cornerstones of classic black tie, lose the tie, and who knows, you too may wade into the middle of 2019 looking like your best ever self.
