On the back of Mad Men, Jonn Hamm rose from ascendant actor to style icon proper. Lots of razor-sharp suits and intensely Brylcreemed side-partings. Though for all the supposed haunting of the Don Draper ghost, the 48-year-old has managed to switch the boozy, brash, besuited advertising exec for a new aesthetic: unintentionally cool university professor.

On par with the impossibly sharp academics of Tom Ford's A Single Man, Hamm has slowly morphed into the course leader of some ridiculously difficult European history module you always wanted to skip, but never did. That's because the man at the front was cool. He even made genuinely funny jokes, ones not solely targeted to socially inept experts of Middle Age France. The girls swooned. So too did some of the boys. That man was Jon Hamm.

At the London premiere of his latest Amazon series, Good Omens, the American actor lifted his usual uniform - the classic suit - to newer, less dandyish heights. You can thank a pair of glasses and robust grooming. What's more, Hamm's trademark consistency extends to this suit in question: windowpane checks for added depth, peak lapels and all the right accessories.

After all, clean cut, American jawlines may belong in an advertising boardroom. But it's spectacles, beards and tailoring that'll command a sleepy lecture hall of booze-addled 19-year-olds. And everyone else for that matter.
