Men like Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio don't step out often. That's because they don't have to. But, when duty calls - which in this instance means the premiere for Quentin Tarantino's widely-anticipated Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood - they scrub up well, lending credence to the conspiracy that cinema's elite have all traded their souls for eternal youth. Well, you can now add Very Good Hair to the perks of an Illuminati membership too.

At Cannes Film Festival, Pitt and DiCaprio went tête à tête with not one but two exceedingly sharp cuts that you don't have to appear on the star-heavy billing to mimic.

For DiCaprio, it was the traditional short back and sides. Which sounds simple enough. Unlike the current appetite for extreme fadery (or indeed Peaky Blinders severity), the 44-year-old took a natural approach, subtly blending the cut into a classic, longer length on-top. It worked in the Golden Age of Hollywood and it works now.

Meanwhile, his co-star slicked back. Long an advocate of lengthy 90s locks - a haircut that Pitt has miraculously kept on the right side of cool for about two decades now - it was a little more preened thanks to a pomade matte. That means a shallow quiff of sorts at the front, and a length that finishes at the nape of the neck. Clever, especially when you want to step to the fore without upsetting the hyper-formal dress code of a bash as in clover as Cannes.

The result is a rare moment. The stars aligned. Neither co-star outshone one another on the red carpet. Instead, Pitt and DiCaprio stand shoulder-to-shoulder (and head-to-head) with two lids that'll last. Or at least until the next big Tarantino blockbuster, anyway.
