Picture the scene: it's 4pm in Nice and insufferably hot, but you're not sweating it. Not one bit. Because despite being in possession of a stolen Renoir in a plot of murder, intrigue and femme fatales in dangerously fast cars, you've remained cool. And you've Michael Fassbender's Riviera-worthy suit to thank.

At the Hollywood premiere of latest X-Men flick Dark Phoenix (a veritable who's who of Very Stylish Men), the 42-year-old proved why you should be dressing like a part-time art dealer/full-time mastermind. It's summer-appropriate. It's sharp. And, unexpectedly, it's incredibly easy to wear. Helps that it's Tom Ford, too.

Just take the slew of other famous names to white out their tailoring. At a TAG Heuer event, Patrick Dempsey opted for a light Brunello Cucinelli two-piece. For Chanel's Metiers d'Art show, Korean-American actor Daniel Henney set-up shop on the riviera, too. The trick is to keep your other tailoring hallmarks of the same shade. So either a shade of off-white (ivory, cream and so on), or a pale blue, yellow, even pink.

In a time when tailoring is experiencing something of an experimental phase, a white suit can break the mould without making too much of a song and dance. Simply focus on fit, pair with some retro sunglasses and evade the Côte d'Azur local authorities for the foreseeable future.
