Liberté, égalité, lovely Breton stripes - a triumvirate forever immortalised in the motto of the Third Republic (well, something like that anyway). Better yet, it's something co-opted by Oscar Isaac, who just did the whole French thing better than most of mainland France.
Though instead of reciting Sartre on the banks of the Seine, Isaac took a Gallic touch to the heartlands of US culture: the late night talk show. On the set of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the 40-year-old hit the cornerstones of a proper French wardrobe with the all-black of a surly sculpture student, the Breton stripe of an overpriced postcard and a blazer sharp enough to make Savile Row bristle.
It's foolproof, and easily imitated. After all, there's a reason Parisian style has embarrassed the rest of the continent since time began. Turns out we're getting just as good at it.
