After months of waiting, Louis Vuitton took over the Pont Neuf in Paris last night to present the first collection by new creative director Pharrell Williams. Guests travelled by boat (avoiding the traffic-filled cobbled roads) to the bridge-turned-catwalk, with just about every celeb you’d expect to find in Pharrell’s orbit seated front row. There was Beyonce and Jay Z, Rihanna and ASAP Rocky, Riz Ahmed, Jared Leto and Nigo, to name a few. And much like everyone else, they were wondering where the record producer/rapper/designer would take the fashion house, following the tragic passing of the visionary Virgil Abloh.

He didn’t disappoint. In a spring/summer collection that focused on the sun as its inspiration point, Pharrell drew upon his predilection for Happy vibes (sorry) to create pieces that felt inherently joyful.

Monograms featured heavily across tailoring, denim and accessories, as well as signature prints, like the Damier. A new camo-influenced addition coined “Damoflage”, was present in the first grouping of looks in a semi-pixelated format, paired with suit trousers as his take on office uniforms. The collection was cut up by golf buggies stacked with LV trunks – the historic brand’s original offering – proving that his contemporary prints look just as good on age-old accessories.

That brings us to the bags. Bowling silhouettes have been stamped with the LV insignia but updated in fresh colours, and as the aforementioned Umbrella singer carries them within Pharrell’s first campaign, we expect they’ll sell out fast.
