In a transatlantic horological collaboration, the Horological Society of New York is teaming up with the British Horological Institute to bring its travelling watchmaking classes to London.

Taking place on August 31st and September 1st, the classes are entitled "Horology 101 to 103" and give participants a chance to discover the inner workings of a Swiss watch movement for themselves. It is the first time the classes have come to the UK; they will be held at the Clockworks in West Norwood.

In each four-hour course, you will receive lessons in movement mechanics, gear training, and winding and setting. Each person will disassemble and reassemble an ETA 6497 movement, learn the proper usage of watchmaking tools and gain a first-hand understanding of how a mechanical movement works.

The course is taught by the HSNY's director of travelling education, Vincent Robert - a watchmaking with previous experience at Jaeger-LeCoultre, Swatch Group, Dewitt and Harry Winston.
