Before 30 Rock, before Curb Your Enthusiasm, before Extras — before any other cleverly self-referential meta-show about the workings of the entertainment industry — there was Larry. Well actually, there was Garry, playing Larry, and creating one of the most iconic and highly regarded comedy series in the process. If you missed it in the Nineties, this is your chance to win the complete first season, just released on DVD.
It's rare to meet a comedian today who doesn't reference Gary Shandling's neurotic error-prone talk show host as an inspiration — as the quote from Ricky Gervais on the box attests. Of course, he had some worthy supporting cast in the form of Jeffrey Tambor as earnest egg-headed announcer, Hank, Rip Torn as the Joker-smiled producer Artie, and a slew of celebrity guests sending themselves up including Danny DeVito, Sharon Stone and Billy Crystal (above). It was all very clever and inventive, but most importantly — very funny.
We have five copies of The Larry Sanders Show: The Complete First Season to give away. To be in with a chance of winning, send an email to with the subject heading "Larry Sanders" to email@example.com (and see T&Cs below). Or if you just can't wait, you can buy your own copy here
