If you’re looking for big-name headliners, field-loads of festivalgoers and a virtually guaranteed mudbath, then you’ve already booked your Glastonbury tickets. Have a lovely time. If however, you’re still undecided about how to allocate your festival budget this year, then may we recommend Winterwell.
Winterwell is a pocket-sized gathering in the heart of the Cotswolds which promises to be a touch more grown-up that the average event — and certainly more sophisticated. Actually, we should qualify that: its fancy-dress theme — “The Works Of Roald Dahl” — isn’t exactly going to call for Savile Row style, but the presence of late night cabaret and films, vintage tearooms and the Absolut vodka tent all bode well, as does the line-up (which includes Norman Jay and DJ Yoda and rising stars We Have Band).
Plus, for those of us who have firmly retired our wellies and wetwipes, “Hotel Winterwell” tames the great outdoors by providing luxurious tents complete with electricity and decadently soft queen-sized beds. (What was that? It’s not just the beds that have gone soft? Whatever, enjoy the mud.)
Best of all, we have a pair of tickets to give away. See below for entry details. Winterwell Festival, Kemble, Gloucestershire, 18-20 June 2010, www.winterwell.co.uk
