Josephine de la Baume | A Woman We Love

Josephine de la Baume | A Woman We Love

As well as being photographed for this exclusive Esquire shoot, Josephine De La Baume has a lot of other strings to her bow.

Not only does she as appear alongside Jeremy Piven in ITV’s Mr Selfridge (playing French fashionista Valerie Maurel), she modelled in a campaign for Agent Provocateur in 2011 and is the lyricist and vocalist in dreamy pop duo SingTank with her brother, Alexandre. Oh, and she’s married to Mark Ronson.

Signed to Warner Music, SingTank’s debut album, In Wonder, was produced by Nellee Hooper, who has worked with Bjork and Massive Attack.

“The record is very much about the imaginary,” says de la Baume, “about people that are lost in between their dreams and reality. It’s a state that my brother and I always feel a little bit like we’re in.”

Josephine de la Baume is constantly on the move, dividing her time equally between London and Paris.  “I’m kind of living on the Eurostar at the moment,” she admits, curled up on the sofa in a Notting Hill hotel.

When in London, she shares her West London home with husband Ronson, himself quite a busy man who could be anywhere in the world on any given day of the week (he calls from New York during our interview).

So, what do Josephine de la Balme and Mark Ronson do during their downtime? “We’re movie geeks,” she says, “we’ll sit and watch Paul Mazursky films for, like, nine hours.” And their home life? It's sweetly domestic; during the Esquire photo shoot, a few days before our interview, Ronson phones to complain he’s been locked in the house, and needs to get out to walk the dog.
