It was in 2010 that Hollywood execs first started floating the idea of a movie based on the cult Eighties TV series, The Fall Guy, which starred Lee Majors as a stunt performer turned bounty hunter. Different directors have been attached at different times – including Bond veteran Martin Campbell – but it’s hard to see a better fit than the man they eventually landed on.

Filmmaker David Leitch is currently one of our most successful action movie directors, but he previously worked in front of the camera as a stunt man and coordinator. He’s doubled for Brad Pitt and Jean-Claude Van Damme, and thrown himself around the sets of blockbusters and indie flicks alike. Now we have The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, which stands as Leitch’s tribute to the unrecognised stunt performers who make the most dangerous scenes in cinema happen.

For the latest episode of Esquire Freeze Frame, we caught up with the director to talk about three key scenes from the film and how he approached each one. Needless to say, it’s a pretty spoiler heavy conversation. You can check it out up there, and take a look at our rundown of the biggest movie releases of the year here.
