Meryl Streep's freshly reworked waxwork sadly bears more of a resemblance to her terrifying character from Into the Woods than the legendary actress herself.

Hollywood's Madame Tussauds unveiled the Oscar-nominated star's updated figure last night, but we're not completely convinced that it managed to capture Streep's magnificence accurately.

However, we do admire the recreation of the glorious gold Lanvin gown she wore when accepted her second Academy Award for her remarkable turn as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.

The launch of the museum's brand new (and supposedly improved) Streep was celebrated ahead of this weekend's Oscars. The actress has made history with her 20th Academy Award nomination for role as the titular lead in Florence Foster Jenkins.

She has been nominated sixteen times for Best Actress, and four times for Best Supporting. Not bad for an actress branded "overrated"...

Streep will go up against Natalie Portman in Jackie, Elle's Isabelle Hupert, Ruth Negga in Loving, and current favourite La La Land's Emma Stone at Sunday's ceremony.

At least her waxwork's not quite as bad as this bizarre recreation...
