Dip into The Pacific

The Pacific theatre of operations is an oft-forgotten chapter of WW2, regularly coming in second to the European arm of the conflict.

The bloody Pacific battles – and the men who fought in them – are the subject of a new HBO-produced, Emmy Award-winning (no surprises there then) 10-part mini-series.

Graphically portraying the claustrophobic conditions endured by troops in the fight against the Japanese empire, “The Pacific” takes focus on the true-to-life journeys of three U.S Marines – Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge and John Basilone - whose military exploits were documented in post-war memoirs and dispatches.

Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman have cooked up a squirm-inducing though captivating snapshot of war, and all its realities. If you liked Band of Brothers, you’ll love this.

The Pacific DVD and Blu-Ray box set, which includes a ton of extras, is set for release on Monday 1 November.
