Adrien Sauvage is the designer and face of new brand A. Sauvage – you may have seen his clothes in our November issue. To promote his next collection he has made a short black and white film narrated by Larry Lamb, and while it teeters on the brink of pretension, it’s also rather charming. One of the interesting things about his spring 2011 collection is that it contains suits.
This wouldn’t normally be surprising but when A.Sauvage launched, its subtitle was "This Is Not A Suit" and Adrien made much of the fact that he was forging a brave new approach to mens clothes by focusing on separates. Sauvage told us at the first screening of The Art of DE that it turns out his clients want to wear matching trousers and jackets, and that this presented him with a problem that he could only overcome by designing suits.
The temptation to say "Told you so" was almost overwhelming, but that takes nothing away from our admiration of Sauvage’s collection.
