As Kick-Ass charms cinema audiences across the nation, we can't help but wonder how Edgar Wright and the team behind Scott Pilgrim Vs The World — which also happens to be an adaptation of a comic about an unlikely nerd-boy superhero — are feeling right now. Having seen the trailer, we're pretty optimistic that Scott and Edgar will hold their own.
Though Aaron Johnson has proved himself a very likeable lead in Kick-Ass, Wright has the failsafe Michael Cera heading up his film, with Mary Elizabeth Winstead as rollerblading courier and love interest Ramona — whose seven evil ex-boyfriends Scott must defeat — and the winning Anna Kendrick as his little sister Stacey.
We're also excited by Wright's evident enjoyment of the quirks of Bryan Lee O'Malley's original comic books (which veer from quiet slacker chat to Mortal Kombat fight sequence from one cell to the next) — those huge pop-up words superimposed around the fight scenes remind us of the original Batman in the best possible way.
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World is out on 27 August
