Star Wars Episode VII Plot Details Revealed?

Luke Skywalker could have a significant hand in kicking off the new trilogy

Plot details for JJ Abram’s new Star Wars film are currently more guarded than the Death Star reactor core, with only casting announcements and the news of Harrison Ford’s broken leg being confirmed thus far.

Now Badass Digest has the first rumours regarding the plot. For those afraid of spoilers, the rumours suggest only a general outline and possible details of the first 20 minutes of the film, so don’t be afraid to read on.

According to the rumours the film is set to open with John Boyega’s storm trooper, on the run on a desert planet (Tattooine?) having deserted his unit. He then meets up with Daisy Ridley’s character and the two make a (somewhat grisly) discovery among the sand in the form of Luke Skywalker’s severed hand, last seen in The Empire Strikes Back and still clutching the lightsaber that Obi Wan gave him in a New Hope.

Recognising the lightsaber as a Jedi weapon, Boyega and Ridley set off to find Han and Chewie (presumably still running the Millennium Falcon together) who tell the youngsters that the hand’s previous owner hasn’t been seen since the events of Return Of The Jedi, some 30 years before.

It seems possible then that Luke has taken a vow of non-violence following the events of the 1983 movie, and specifically his father’s sacrifice and redemption. Will we see Luke set up on Dagobah, ready to train a new Jedi, just as Yoda trained him? Bearing in mind the fact that the lost and found lightsaber belonged to Anakin, then Luke and now Boyega’s character, will we see a passing of the torch and the re-emergence of the Jedi order? (We’d also bet good money that Luke will crop up in ghost form somewhere in the new trilogy).

And while the Jedi may be about to resurface rumour has it that evil forces are hiding out on an ice planet building a super weapon capable of destroying entire solar systems. Presumably this is where Max Von Sydow and Adam Driver come in, hopefully as master and apprentice, respectively.

While using a 30-year-old severed hand as a plot device to kick start an epic new trilogy may seem flimsy, it does offer nice continuity with the original trilogy and reminds us that the prequels happened a long, long time ago.

Star Wars Episode VII is released December 2015
