Mad Max Still Looks Incredible Without Special Effects

That really was Tom Hardy strapped to a car

If, like us, you found Mad Max: Fury Road to be one of the most thrilling actions movies in years, you might be surprised to know it's still pretty exciting without the special effects.

In this new clip from Sploid, footage from the film is intercut with footage from the Namibian Desert shoot – pre-visual effects – providing an insight into the creation of George Miller's post-apocalyptic universe.

If anything, it's just downright refreshing to see the actors – Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, et al. – throwing themselves into the action.

A highlight includes actor Hugh Keays-Byrne (who plays the main antagonist Immortan Joe) without his oxygen mask – still intimidating as hell – shouting "You look amazing!" to a crowd of extras (perhaps channelling his inner Nicholas Hoult).

Unfortunately, there's no sign of crazy guitar guy.
