In perhaps his least convincing performance since The Tourist, Johnny Depp has been filmed alongside his girlfriend Amber Heard apologising to the 'wonderful island' of Australia over their recent dog smuggling saga.
The video was played during a court case in which Heard was sentenced with a $1000, one-month good behaviour bond for taking her pets into the country without declaring them last year.
Dripping with contempt for the whole exercise, Depp delivers his mea culpa with all the sincerity you'd expect from a self-styled free spirit and former best friend of Hunter S Thompson being made to grovel to politicians over the fate of two dogs called Pistol and Boo.
Quick to seize upon a rare opportunity to humiliate a Hollywood A-lister, Australia's minister for agriculture Baranby Joyce posted the clip to Facebook and pointed out the bleeding obvious by telling reporters he didn't think Depp was particularly happy about taking part.
"It was offered. Whether the court accepts it or not as part of an outcome is really the realm of the court, and in this instance the court did."
"I don't think it is something they would have willingly wanted to do."
The look on Depp's face throughout has, naturally, had Twitter and the wider web in stitches. File this alongside 'Billy Corgan at Disneyland' and 'Sad Kayne West' in the history of internet memes.
