This week sees the release of boxing drama Southpaw, a film which saw Jake Gyllenhaal gain 15 pounds of muscle for the role of Billy Hope. We run through seven other actors who hit the gym hard in preparation for their film rolesMore
Despite Southpaw focusing primarily on Billy Hope's life outside the ring, Gyllenhaal hit the gym twice a day for six hours in preparation for the role – a regime consisting of 2,000 situps, three hours of weight training and three hours of boxing. It's even more staggering when you consider he'd previously just lost 30lbs for Nightcrawler.
The Aussie – now in his 15th year of playing Wolverine – has had to maintain a physique most would struggle to comprehend across seven X-Men films. The guy behind the workout? Personal trainer David Kingsbury. Working with the actor on 2011's The Wolverine, Jackman was tasked with a four-week cycle which saw him build muscle while adding as little body fat as possible.
