The 'Fake Sheikh' Has Been Caught Out And Karma Is Glorious

It was a long time coming

It's the kind of news story that just warms the cockles.

Mazher Mahmood, otherwise known as 'The Fake Sheikh', was responsible for some of the most famous tabloid stings of the past few decades.

There was the time he hoodwinked Sven Goran Eriksson into admitting he'd ditch the England team for a big stonking paycheck to manage Aston Villa (!!) in 2006, or the famous story when Newcastle United honcho Freddy Shepard took him to a Marbella brothel and called Geordie women "dogs".

His methods were almost always the same: dress up as a rich investor from the Middle East and wave cash under popular figures' noses until they let their guard down and said something stupid and incriminating.

His integrity, however, wasn't always so consistent.

And after a long career of underhand tactics and suspect methods, the controversial reporter, who took on politicians, royalty, Hollwood A-listers and terrorists, has finally been defeated by his greatest challenger yet.

Most Popular

Tulisa, from N-Dubz.

When Mazher Mahmood, posing as a film financier, convinced Tulisa to organize a drug deal for him, it wasn't long before the Sun on Sunday ran with the headline: "Tulisa's cocaine deal shame."

Her career suffered, and her reputation amongst people who care about that sort of thing was in tatters.

But now after a court case where Mazher's methods were called into question, the self-appointed 'King of Sting' has been caught out and found guilty of tampering with evidence, including convincing someone to change their witness statement and plying the singer with drink.

So the Fake Sheikh has been caught out, hook line and sinker. What have we learnt from this whole sorry affair? Well in the end, liars never prosper. In fact, sometimes they have to go to a Marbella brothel with Freddy Shepard.

If that isn't a life lesson, we don't know what is.
