They say you never appreciate something until it's gone and that's certainly how it feels now Barack Obama has departed the Oval Office.
Maybe it was the pictures of him casually wearing a backwards cap on the beach or perhaps it is the prospect of far right leader Marine Le Pen edging into power, but either way, France want a slice of the Baracktion.
Obama17 is a guerrilla campaign attempting to lure the former POTUS to France for their upcoming election. "It's totally crazy, but the cool thing is that once you get past that, you start thinking that maybe it's possible. Who cares that he's not French? He's Barack Obama," one of the campaign organizers told CNN.
Obama17 have launched a website and stuck 500 posters of Obama around Paris. What separates this from a drum and bass party in Hounslow you ask? Well a petition urging Obama to run which their hoping to get 1 million signatures on.
The organiser who wants to be known only as 'Antoine' has admitted the campaign isn't totally serious but that it does have a serious message.
"We want to show that people are fed up with the politicians here," he explained. "People are tired about it and they like this joke. It gives people a little fun amid all these scandals," he said.
"We are so fed up with what Marine Le Pen is doing, and with the fact that we weren't able to find a candidate to vote for, only one to vote against," said Antoine. "We started talking about that and it came up that Obama is free -- so why not hire him?"
He admitted their would be issues, like the fact Barry O isn't French, but that just a reaction from him could help their cause.
"I think if Barack Obama answers this, there will be a huge amount of reaction. I think he might like this kind of thing," said Antoine. "People in France would get crazy, especially young people. But he won't say yes to our proposal."
Oui on peut!
